How She Got Started
Brenda Caldwell’s career as an award-winning artist
began and almost ended in 1972.
Inspired by her beloved first-grade teacher,
Brenda entered and won a city-wide art contest, garnering local news coverage, a $100 savings bond, and a commemorative plaque to mark her achievement. Despite this auspicious beginning, Brenda never touched art again until 2011, when a heartfelt commission from a loved one sparked a rediscovery of her love for creative expression. While working on this first piece, she discovered a unique technique of using foam and typing paper to create a textured look. However, Brenda's use of paper towels was soon discovered while wiping paint off her hands after using strips of copy paper. She realized the paper towels had a better thickness and her trademark technique of sculpting on canvas was born. Since 2011, Brenda has been creating art with 3 P's -paper towel, paint and passion! Each creation includes three-dimensional wording that conveys an inspirational message which turns this unique art into "masterpieces with meaning." Her signature is a touch of sparkle that accentuates
the brilliance of each piece of artwork. The self-proclaimed, Paper Towel Artist™ calls her artwork "three dimensional canvas sculptured art,” using paper towel as her medium. “I was inspired to choose the name Paper Towel Artist after reading the story of Japanese artist, Chie Hitotsuyama, who creates fascinating life size sculptures of animals out of old newspapers. Her story gave me the confidence to pursue establishing myself as the creator of three dimensional canvas sculptured art using paper towels.” Brenda has applied for a patent for her process.

More Than An Artist
For most of us, paper towels are for wiping up spills. But for Brenda, they serve a whole different purpose. Because as you look at her artwork you can see that she takes ordinary pieces of paper towels and transforms them into extraordinary pieces of art. Her transformative art is an extension of her transformative work as a psychologist specializing in forgiveness therapy, an empowerment speaker for youth and adult audiences and author of two books.
A native of Memphis, TN, she hosted the first exhibition of her work in 2015 at a gallery in the city’s historic Midtown arts district, where she sold all ten exhibited pieces within one hour. Since then, Brenda has been commissioned to create her trademark three-dimensional canvas sculptured artwork for clients throughout the United States and abroad.
Fondly known as Dr. B., she says her artwork is influenced by her faith and deep desire to bring hope, healing and inspiration to others. A visionary artist, she is also a self-described “Hopeologist.” Brenda believes her art serves a purpose in people’s lives.
“I want people to feel inspired, empowered, strengthened, hopeful and above all, God’s love. As a commissioned artist, Brenda's unique artwork becomes a "conversation piece" for homes, offices, art galleries or wherever displayed. Brenda's Artwork has been featured on the social media sites of The Procter & Gamble Company for her creative use of P & G's Bounty paper towel product.
